Vacation is the perfect time to leave your cares behind. Forget about the burdens of daily life and relax, play, eat, drink, and rest. But while you’re having all that fun and letting loose, the one thing that’s experiencing greater stress is your hair! Damage from the sun, salt, and chlorine can make your hair a hassle while you’re trying to relax. We have you covered with these vacation hair tips and tricks to keep you looking amazing in no time at all.
Vacation Hair Tips
1. Protect It

First, you spend too much on hair color and maintenance to let the sun and surf fade it! Protect your hair with masques and leave-in conditioners that protect it from UV light. There are a lot of products on the market to protect your hair both before and after you hit the beach.
Here are some of our favorites that work well on mature hair without weighing it down or making you look greasy.

This mask was originally developed for the U.S. Olympic Synchronized Swimming team! This conditioning treatment protects against the damaging effects of chlorinated and salt water. Plus, it contains UV absorbers to extend the life of color-treated hair. It creates a protective layer on the hair to shield it from the discoloring effects of chlorine, so your hair doesn’t turn green!

Moisturize your hair and protect it from thermal heat. Oribe’s Supershine Moisture Cream is a leave-in conditioner with UV filters and crushed pearls for shine. Start with a pea-sized amount, and then work it from the mid-length of your hair down to the ends, and you’ll be set.

High Dive is just what you need after too much sun, salt and chlorine. This leave-in conditioner gives excellent moisture, defrizzes, and protects from UV rays and thermal heat.
2. Use a Beach Spray
Second, you’re on vacation. Let your hair be on vacation too. There are great sprays and “lotions” that will give you a no-fuss beach style. Let your hair air dry and naturally create waves and texture.
- As an “after” beach spray, perfect for wavy hair that needs a little more, try Oribe Apres Beach. It gives separation to the individual strands, as well as a slight hold and oils to nourish. Be sure to spray this INTO the hair and not just ON the hair. There’s a difference, and you’ll see a definite change if the product is applied properly.
- Want the beachy look without spending the day on the beach? Oribe Matte Waves “lotion” gives your hair a sandy or salty texture without any of the drying salts. It nourishes while texturizing the hair, making your locks look better after a day at the beach than when the day started.
- A soft wave spray, Sail gives a light texture without any salts. Spray into damp hair on top of High Dive or Turntable and define your waves.
3. Use Dry Shampoo

Third, instead of washing every day (which you shouldn’t be doing anyway), use dry shampoo or paste.
- Dry shampoos are a must for travel. Oribe Gold Lust Dry Shampoo has treatment benefits for the scalp (chamomile and lavender) as well as oil absorbers and silk fibers to soften. It works great to refresh your hair after having a hat on all day, which can cause it to lay flat or appear dull.
- R+Co Badlands is a dry shampoo paste. Take a small, dime-sized amount and break it down in your fingers. Then, work it through your roots for instant volume, texture, and oil absorption. Finally, blast with your dryer to break down texture, if necessary
4. Use an Anti-Frizz Product

Fourth, if you are at the beach, lake, or anywhere that humidity reigns, you’d better grab some anti-frizz products, so your hair stays smooth and well-behaved.
- Fight the frizz. Oribe Impermeable is an ANTI humidity spray and a MUST for anyone in humid locations or where there is moisture in the air. It works as a very light hold hairspray but creates a veil on the hair to protect it from frizzing. This spray is Miami tested and actually means “raincoat” in French.
- Speed up your blow dry and fight the frizz of even the tightest curls with Straight Away. It’s the perfect blowout cream and works to nourish, add thermal protection, and smooth your hair.
- A curl primer is great for anyone with curly/wavy hair. Turntable primes and defines your curls, giving them moisture and protecting them from frizz. It couples great with Sail to provide you with the healthiest, smoothest hair you can get.
5. Pack a Few Backup Products

Fifth, be ready for anything.
- Candy Stripe is a lightweight primer that works to lightly nourish, even porosity, and give your hair thermal protection. It’s great to mist on after the day’s activities to reactivate the product or existing texture.
- If you can’t get into your stylist before or after your vacation, use a Root Touch Up Spray to cover any greys or re-growth while also absorbing oils.
