A Guide to Empowered Aging

Your attitude plays a big part in how you age. Here's how you can motivate a level of empowered aging and live the life you want.

Aging is meant to be a beautiful journey that brings wisdom, growth, and the greatest opportunities for self-discovery.

However, society doesn’t always make it feel that way. In fact, it’s often quite the opposite.

Aging can feel more like a negative experience of being “over the hill” rather than the beauty those years bring. And we are here to change that.

As a woman over 50, you should look at this chapter of your life as one filled with new beginnings and a new sense of self that is more fulfilled than ever.

So let’s rewrite the narrative of aging and empower women to age how we’re meant to – with a happy and peaceful feeling.

Embrace Your Age and Power

Age should not be seen as a limitation but rather a celebration of the rich life you’ve lived and the experiences you’ve had.

Take a moment to reflect back on some of those experiences. Each one tells a story that was either a joyous one, one of resilience, or one of joy (maybe all three!).

Embrace those memories as something to be proud of. Your experiences have enriched your life and made you wiser and more evolved.

See Self-Care as a Priority

While some may say that self-care is an indulgence, we say no way.

Self-care is vital to your mental, physical, and emotional health.

As you enter into the later phases of life, it’s important to make self-care non-negotiable. It’s okay to put yourself first, and no – it doesn’t make you selfish.

Self-care can be meditating, doing hobbies you enjoy, exercising, or anything that brings you joy and makes you feel better. Every act of self-care brings you greater health in mind, body, and spirit.

Find New Passions

While oftentimes aging is equated to slowing down, that doesn’t mean it has to if that’s not what you want. Instead, look at this time in your life as a time to thrive and explore new passions you’ve always wanted to try.

You may want to travel, paint, write, or even start a new business – the options are endless.

Allow yourself to be excited about these new adventures, and remember that age has no limit when it comes to finding your new passions.

Build a Supportive Community

As we age, we must surround ourselves with like-minded people who celebrate you rather than bring you down.

We are talking about friends who lift you up, inspire you, and share your thirst for life. This is key to your own motivation.

If you already have this community – great! Continue to nurture it. If you don’t – that’s okay! You can branch out and meet new people who align with your values of continuing to have a fulfilling life.

Commit to Holistic Health

Physical activity is integral to aging in an empowered way. So, you want to stay engaged in activities that keep your body feeling great. Some of those can include:

  • Yoga
  • Dancing
  • Swimming
  • Walks in nature
  • Qi gong

Physical activity is great for your physical health, mood, and vitality.

But it’s not all about physical health. Mental health is equally as important. Participate in things that challenge your mind and keep you curious and learning. This could be reading, learning a new language, or even solving puzzles.

By keeping your mind active, you continue to grow and adapt to this new chapter in life.

Have Fun With Style

Playing around with your style isn’t just for kids. Your fashion choices are an extension of your personality, so why not have fun with this new phase of your life and have fun with your style?

The world is your oyster here, and you do not need to conform to any preconceived notions of what someone your age “should’ wear.

Set New Goals

It is never too late to set new goals and find new dreams. Aging certainly is not the time to stop growing and expanding yourself.

If your dream is to travel somewhere new, learn a new skill, or become more involved in your community – go for it! Keep evolving and dreaming big no matter what your age.

Appreciate Your Resilience

At this point in your life, you’ve had no shortage of challenges. But you’ve also been resilient enough to navigate them, and that’s no small feat.

Know that ups and downs will continue to come as you age, but remember that you have the ability to overcome anything that comes your way.

And if you find yourself struggling with some of those challenges, ask for help and remain kind to yourself.

Reaching the age of 50 and moving beyond it is just the beginning of a new, beautiful path.

Each passing year, you become stronger, wiser, and a more aligned version of yourself. So, say “goodbye” to the idea of being “over the hill” and instead enjoy the view from the top, where you stand empowered and ready to enjoy the next things life has in store for you.

And above all, remember that age is just a number. And that number doesn’t mean anything. It’s your spirit and your love for life that defines you.
