It’s that weird time of year, when you have to figure out transitional pieces to take you from one season to the next. Mother nature likes to toy with us….making it cold in the morning, or one week, only to blast a furnace in the next moment. Forecasts only help so much if you’re in a part of the country with wacky weather patterns.
But the bigger question is, what to buy right now? Last season’s clothing is picked over and usually on sale. The new season isn’t all quite out yet. And you just need some transitional pieces to reinvigorate your current pieces, that will also mix into next month’s wardrobe.
Focus on these layerable and interchangeable items to stretch this season into next.
Denim is a color that works in any season, will layer over any thickness, and is light enough to tie around your waist or your handbag if it gets too warm.
Choose a saturated color stripe and it will look like fall when paired with a solid thick cardigan sweater, yet still fresh by itself with white ankle jeans now.
Even with the darker color, pairing with flats and a flowy top now is right in season, but tuck the skinny legs into tall boots with a trench down the road.
Polka Dots are very on trend, and in a color like Navy, it’s classic year-round. Roll up the sleeves and tie up with wide crops now, layer over a tank in a few degrees less, and then wear under a solid blazer later.
Sweet with a tank now as shown, then throw a cropped cardigan on, then wear with high boots and a turtleneck. This solid bright green or their black floral is seasonless.
Stands alone. But wouldn’t this also be fantastic under a suit jacket.
A loose weave lets airflow in, so you can wear it earlier in the year, but still keep you from being chilled.
Sleeveless now. Chiffon floral top soon. A sweater dress later.
Has a sweater feel, but wispy light. Natural works anytime.
Slip on with capris, long pants or midline skirts. Keeps your ankles exposed but your toes covered. Wear with tights in sweater season.
Be on the lookout for anything that layers, really. Take advantage of all the end of season sales to pick up many of these transitional pieces at a lower cost, and you’ll be ready when the weather turns on you.
