As I’ve gotten older, my selection of clothing, shoes, and other accessories has evolved. I no longer wear the short skirts that I did in my youth, and if I’m going to wear a sleeveless shirt, I’m very particular about how my chicken wings look in it. I’ve also started to pass on the heeled sandals I wore in the past. I love how they elongate my legs and seem to make me look more slender, but I pay for it at the end of the day. Sore, aching feet are the norm when I wear the wrong shoes, and it’s just not worth it to me anymore.
But that doesn’t mean I don’t still want to look good – I absolutely do, and I bet I’m not alone. While the winter months are in full swing, I’m planning to get down south for a few days to get a little sun and vitamin D. To make that happen, I need the right shoes.
If you saw the heading on this article and grimaced at the word ‘orthotic’ – I get it. It sounds like something clunky and colorless. But the shoe selection these days offers much more than what you’re picturing, and the fashion-forward approach designers have taken has created a lot of great options. If you’re looking to invest in new footwear – either for now or because you’re dreaming of beaches and sunshine – check out our list of the best orthotic sandals for women over 50. You might be surprised at what we have to offer.
