It’s October! Mother Nature is tempting us with cooler weather and cozier nights. Fall is my favorite time of the year, but my skin might disagree! Because our skin slowly loses the ability to produce sebum, it tends to need a bit of extra help keeping it moisturized when we are ramping up (down) into the cooler temps and windier days. Here are some skin care products to keep our largest organ healthy and happy during the chilly weather!
1. Primers Anyone?
There are primers for everyone’s skin type. Mostly, they are used to keep oily skin in check, but these skin care products can also be used prior to foundation application to help minimize pores and fine lines, give your foundation extra staying power, or just give your face a mattifying or illuminating effect.
It can be a bit tricky having so many options. For fall and winter, if you feel you even need a primer, I would suggest going with one that diminishes pores and fine lines like:
Smashbox’s Photo Finish Foundation Primer – This baby will whip your face into shape before you start putting on your makeup. It’s like giving it a little pep talk for the day.
Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer, $36
If you feel like your skin does produce extra oil throughout the day regardless of the weather (this is actually a great thing because you are less likely to get wrinkles!) maybe try out:
Givenchy’s Mister Mat Mattifying Primer Instant Touch Up – This primer covers all the bases and touts “the production of sebum is slowed.” You can’t beat that!
Givenchy Mister Mat Mattifying Foundation Primer, $61.88
2. Introduce a Moisture-Rich Mask
Do we need a reason to buy fun face masks? Not really, but now we have a few! With the lack of vitamin D from the sun, the cold temps and the wind, we need all of the help from skin care products that we can get. Adding a good dose of moisture to your weekly routine can make you feel like a new person. Even if you have oily skin, masks are great to help keep everything in balance.
Estēe Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery Powerfoil Mask – This sheet mask is a constant treat when used weekly. Giving your skin a visible shine and leaving you feeling rejuvenated.
Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery Powerfoil Mask, $80
Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream – It may not technically be a mask, but it is an amazing little boost of moisture your face needs on the daily!
Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream 1.7 oz, $29.50
3. Lips Need Love Too
There are other parts of our face that need love in the chilly season as well. My eyelids always dry out like crazy so I have to put oil on them at bedtime to keep them happy. Our lips are always needing a little extra love. Sometimes during the day when you have your favorite color on, it’s hard to get that well-needed conditioning, but night is the best time to help them out with skin care products!
Lucas’ Papaw Ointment – It used to be close to impossible to get this in the states because it is from Australia, but now the secret is getting out, thank goodness! It has a wide array of uses; you can use it on burns, eczema, chafing, etc. but this ointment is the only thing that saves my lips in the winter. It is pure magic!
Lucas’ Papaw Ointment 75g, $13.47
Neosporin Lip Health Overnight Renewal Therapy – The name is pretty self-explanatory, but this overnight treatment is great when you are needing a little extra help with chapping or cracking!
Neosporin Lip Health Overnight Healthy Lips Renewal Therapy, $6.90
4. Boosters Work Miracles
Most boosters are injected directly into the skin, but I have a little secret up my sleeve that is pain-free. These are skin care products that work with your normal skincare routine while helping them. Facial oils! They are so versatile and can be used with any skin type. Yes! ANY skin type. Bear with me here for a moment.
When we wash our face we are stripping our skin of its natural oils. Sometimes having oily skin means you want to wash it more, but in doing so you are stripping it of said oils. Thus, your skin works harder to produce the oils to replace, making it even oilier. I know this sounds crazy, but it is the same with your hair. The more you wash it, the oilier it will become.
See why face oils are becoming so popular?
These are multi-use skin care products too! You can pop them on as a moisturizers, a pre-cleanser, or aftershave for you or your man. You can even mix a drop with your makeup to smooth it out. They are also completely natural!
LimeLife by Alcone Dew Date – This palmarose and sunflower oil serum can help even out complexion issues and help with a multitude of problems! I have so many clients that swear by this stuff.
LimeLife by Alcone Dew Date, $28
LimeLife by Alcone One Drop Wonder – This is very similar to the Dew Date but just on steroids. It is chock full of super antioxidants and omega-6. It is made from the Orsage Orange fruit seed and is heaven in a bottle. I used this stuff for everything…including sunburns and under eye circles.
LimeLife by Alcone One Drop Wonder, $86
I hope you found some fun tricks and treats for your gorgeous face today! Get cozy and pop in a scary movie while enjoying a good face mask. I hope everyone has a great Halloween! XO
