PRiME is proud to introduce our newest contributing editor, Paul Labrecque. Paul is not only a celebrity hair stylist (you’ve read his quotes or seen his work in In Style, Allure, Cosmopolitan, W, Elle, and Town and Country to name a few) but he is also a very successful entrepreneur with four salons and spas in New York City. Paul will be writing monthly articles for PRiME on all things related to hair. When you consider that women say their hair is their most important asset (or problem), I know we’ll all be excited to read his articles for some great advice on how our hair can look it’s best. Since half of Paul’s clientele are women over 50+, and some have been his clients for the past 25 years, he sees the changes our hair goes through as we age, brings a unique perspective, and can offer the solutions to some of the hair problems we all face.
Paul also has a great story. He has always loved to style hair, even at an early age. When he was only nine years old, he began helping his aunt style wigs and knew he had found his passion. However, like a lot of us, Paul wanted to please his parents who saw a different career path for him. He went to college and taught for a few years; but he knew he wasn’t doing what he loved. So, Paul started taking classes to become a professional hair stylist. After a brief stint at a salon in Florida, Paul had an opportunity to move to London and enroll in the highly acclaimed Jingles International Hair Academy where he received the training in the art of cutting and coloring hair that launched him as a platform artist, taking him on a worldwide tour while working with celebrities and models.
London was also where Paul met his future business and life partner, Brian. Together, they moved to New York where Paul served as artistic director in some of Manhattan’s finest salons until he opened his own salon/spa on Manhattan’s Upper West Side in 1988. As they say, the rest is history. With Paul’s innovative techniques and custom-blended color, Paul Labrecque Salon and Spa quickly became recognized as one of New York City’s go-to salon/spas. Now, Paul has taken his career to the next level by creating his own all-new luxury hair care collection. Paul tests all the products himself, along with the other stylist in his salons. His goal is to solve the everyday problems we all face without a lot of fuss—something all of us PRiME women can appreciate.
There are many more impressive things I could tell you about Paul; like a few names of his celebrity clientele: Helen Mirren, Naomi Watts, John Galliano, Reese Witherspoon, Kathleen Turner, Hilary Swank, Sting and Trudie Styler, Reba McEntire, Kyra Sedgwick—but you get the idea. Paul is at the top of his field. What I want you to know about him, though, won’t be found in a press release. Paul is one of the nicest, most genuine people you’ll meet. His passion for his craft spills over into every aspect of his life. From making and styling wigs for women with cancer to performing in his own shows to raise money for cancer victims, Paul is a man who cares deeply for others. It is this love for all of life and desire to share his expertise with women like us that makes Paul Labrecque a fabulous addition to our contributing editors.
You’ll get a chance to speak with Paul yourself via email when we publish his first article May 15th. Paul has graciously offered to answer any questions you may have and would love to hear your ideas on what you would like for him to write about in future articles. Just look for the link at the bottom of his article to submit your question. I know all of you will love getting to know Paul Labrecque.
