7 Natural Thickeners for Thin Hair

It seems that voluminous hair is never going out of style. It has stood the test of time and always comes out on top when it comes to favorite hairstyles. However, not everyone was blessed with naturally thick hair that creates those voluminous looks. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get that volume. You may not have been born with it, but with the right remedies, you may find your hair sporting some serious healthy hair volume. Today we are sharing some tried and true natural thickeners for thin hair.

There are plenty of products on the market that have been created to help with hair growth. However, many of them contain ingredients that no one can pronounce, which may cause other problems. 

Thus, we suggest sticking to natural ways of growing your hair. Here are some of our favorite natural ways to thicken your thin, fine hair.

1. Take Biotin

Biotin is part of the B vitamins family and is most commonly known for its ability to treat weak nails and hair loss. Many people have found success in adding this supplement to their life. 

However, it is important to note that the people who see the most success with using biotin for hair growth are those who were deficient in biotin to begin with. A lack of biotin in your body can lead to hair loss and potentially even skin irritation on your face as well. 

Though many hair products now boast the addition of biotin into their formula, the best way to get the benefits you’re after is to take biotin orally. 

If you want to increase the success of your supplement, you can also find this B vitamin in small doses in foods such as bananas, milk, and eggs.

2. Get Scalp Massages

If you’re looking for an excuse to get a massage, today is your lucky day. It is thought that scalp massages help to stimulate hair growth for all hair types. 

Why?

Because scalp massages work to increase blood circulation to your head, and that blood carries with it oxygen and nutrients that are necessary to aid with hair growth. So, by giving extra attention to this part of your body via a massage, you may find yourself with thicker hair. 

3. Hydrate Your Hair

Many people think that just a regular washing of the hair is enough to keep it happy. Unfortunately, that is not the case. If you want to increase your hair thickness and keep it healthy, you need to put in extra work to keep your hair hydrated. 

A great way to do this is by using a leave-in mask. The amount of time you leave the mask in your hair varies from one mask to another. Some require only a 10-minute soak, while others say it’s best to leave on overnight. 

4. Use Sulfate-Free Shampoo

It’s surprising how many shampoos on the market contain sulfates. They are used primarily to help shampoo lather, but they may be doing damage to your hair over time. 

Sulfates can dry out your hair as well as cause your scalp to become inflamed. You may notice skin irritation as well. To err on the safe side, shop for a shampoo that is free of sulfates. 

5. Limit Heat

If you are someone who relies heavily on blow dryers and/or curling irons to get your hair the way you want it to look, then you may want to reconsider the styles you’re doing. 

Styling with high-heat tools does serious damage to your hair. It can burn your hair and strip it of necessary protection, which renders your hair problematic. 

Ideally, you would cut these tools out of your life entirely and embrace a natural way of styling your hair. However, if you absolutely have to use a blow dryer or other heat styling tool, use it at lower heat settings and use a heat protection spray. This can help protect the hair strands and give you healthier hair in the long run.

6. Take Vitamin C

Vitamin C is known for its ability to help your body heal. That’s why it’s recommended to take this vitamin if you start to feel sick or are already sick. In addition to that, vitamin C works to provide your body with what it needs to create blood vessels, cartilage, muscle, and collagen. Because collagen helps give you stronger hair, it’s vital that you have enough to make your hair look thicker and fuller. 

You can get vitamin C in supplement form, or you can consume some of the following foods to get your daily dose:

  • Strawberries
  • Oranges
  • Broccoli
  • Brussels sprouts
  • Kale

7. Eat a Balanced Diet

There are a number of reasons to eat a healthy diet, one of which is that a lack of nutrients can do a whole slew of damage to your body. One of those problems it can cause is thin, limp, flat hair. By not eating a healthy diet, your body doesn’t get the necessary nutrients for your hair to be strong and healthy and that can affect the thickness of your hair. This means not sticking to the same 3 meals for the next year. To ensure you get all the necessary nutrients, you need to switch up what you eat and throw some new healthy foods in the mix, including leafy greens, sweet potatoes, olive oil, and other healthy fats.
