A Trip to Aveda in Search of the Best Hair Care Product

There are plenty of hair care products available these days, that’s for sure. How do you know which one is best for your hair and scalp? I decided to do a little research, primarily on Aveda, a product line I was interested in learning more about.

My introduction to Aveda product

Many years ago, my salon introduced me to Aveda Cherry Almond Bark Conditioner. At that time, I had never heard of the company, but I really liked the products – they smelled wonderful and my hair always felt great after the appointment.

Then, my stylist moved out of town and over the years, I tried several other hair care products. Then, when we lived in Las Vegas, I started going to a salon close by that used Aveda. I can vouch that the Rosemary Mint shampoo is a really good choice. It smells fresh and clean and leaves your hair feeling silky.

After trying many products from the Aveda line, I thought it would be interesting to actually go visit a store location…road trip!

A trip to the Aveda store

When I entered the store, I was greeted and immediately made to feel welcome. The shop is designed with the client in mind. It’s relaxing and has several tables for consultation. Their products are neatly displayed on shelves along the main wall and ample wattage allowed me to see the products available.

I explained that I was interested in hair care products for women over 40, 50 and beyond. I wanted to see and feel the products that would best serve our needs. The young lady I spoke to, Mae, was informative and professional. I couldn’t help but admire her skin. It was clear, healthy and radiant.

Mae and I discussed the products and I was excited to find they provide a complimentary service to their clients that helps select the best product for their particular hair. The hand held device, called a scalp camera, takes a highly magnified photo that reveals how many hairs are coming out of the follicle.

She asked if I would like to try the scalp camera. You bet – for the sake of research and all. Mae explained that there are typically 1, 2 or 3 hairs, and that is how you are evaluated. My results were some ones and twos and I was actually able to see the hairs and the follicles on the screen! The results indicated that my scalp was slightly dry.

The information gathered during this evaluation assists the professionals at Aveda in ascertaining what products to recommend and what would be beneficial for me to use. All of their products have mild, natural scents and keep your hair healthy and protected.

Hair Care Selections

Aveda
invati™ System $123.00

invati™

A 3- step system of products that are beneficial to hair that is thinning or is naturally fine. I’ve always had fine hair, but I have quite a bit of it…or so I’ve been told over the years. Included in the system is an exfoliating shampoo, a thickening conditioner and a scalp revitalizer.

The shampoo cleanses and renews the scalp. The thickening conditioner helps weightlessly thicken hair from within. The scalp revitalizer helps keep the hair you have longer. The 3-step system reduces hair loss due to breakage by 33% in 12 weeks, and is 97% naturally derived. Thicker, healthier hair and a healthier scalp are the result!

Thickening Tonic

Aveda
Thickening Tonic $29.00

Once applied to your hair, it will instantly expand strands from the roots to the ends.

Botanicals, including organic amla fruit, rosemary, geranium, cinnamon and other pure flower and plant essences make this a delightful addition to your hair care.

And even better news? It’s easy! You spray it on after towel drying and style your hair or blow dry as usual.

All-in-all, I was extremely impressed with the tailored hair care products available for women of all ages. However, I learned that this is only a selection of the many products Aveda offers. During my visit, I derailed from my original research assignment and  tried out a few additional products.

Skin Products

Scented Oils

A display of scented oils caught my eye. I’ve always been interested in mildly scented oils and how they affect your body when infused with certain scents. These are specifically for your chakras.

Aveda
Tulasara™ Radiant Oleation Oil $49.00

I was  introduced to their Tulasara™ radiant oleation oil. It is incredible. It’s a blend of six plant oils and is designed to be massaged into your skin after facial dry brushing. The goal is to nourish and restore skin’s radiance and is for all skin types. I tried it on the top of my hand and the oil was light, absorbed quickly and was a very pleasant scent. I loved the way it had my skin looking and feeling.

The oils contained certified organic sesame, sunflower and jojoba seed combined with rose hip, apricot kernel and sweet almond oil with restorative benefits. The oil also has a small, hand held brush for your face. I will definitely be purchasing this product.

Aveda
tulasāra™ Wedding Masque Eye $55.00

I also found an overnight eye and skin masque that is 97% naturally derived.

I was curious, so I took the liberty of checking to see if they are a cruelty free company. According to LogicalHarmony.net, published May 2017, Aveda products are indeed cruelty free. To double check my facts, I also looked it up on PETA. These high quality products are sold in salons and boutiques in more than 20 countries and are cruelty free.

The results

I enjoyed my visit to Aveda and learning more about Aveda products. It’s good to know they can benefit all of us women over 40 and 50! Their customer service was a pleasure. Thank you, Mae and Rhiannon for your kindness and assistance.

I hope you will visit your local Aveda and enjoy the services and products they offer. I know I will be back…and soon.
