Let’s face it: when an older man dates a younger woman, he gets winks and high fives, while a woman who dates a younger man gets side glances and eye rolls. Not to fear, ladies, those tides are turning. With the slew of celebrity women dating younger men, we gals are feeling more empowered and caring less and less about social prejudices toward what goes on between consenting adults.
Recent studies show that more than 80 percent of women say they’re interested in dating someone at least 10 years younger. With our experience, confidence, assertiveness, and maturity, nearly 90% of men are interested in dating a woman 10 years older or more.
In general, our generation of women was raised assuming we’d marry someone our age or older. Yet, as women have become more socially, mentally, and sexually free, some have begun to find birth years to be not such a big deal, and women of a certain age are venturing out to find love, companionship, and, let’s face it, sexual satisfaction with younger men.
Nevertheless, for some, dating a younger man isn’t the best choice for a variety of reasons. You are at different phases of your life. He might not yet be financially secure. You may have different views on commitment. He may want children!
But dating younger men poses the greatest challenge for those who care about the judgment of others, those who listen to the whispers of some who say we are desperately clinging to our youth. Well, I say every party has its pooper, so you’re not invited. I don’t think 48-year-old Leonardo DiCaprio or 47-year-old Bradley Cooper are bothered about dating women under 25. But I also don’t think Brigitte Macron is bummed about being 24 years older than her husband, the President of France. Nor is Helena Bonham Carter lamenting her boyfriend, 21 years her junior.
I say make waves. Stand out. Ignore those few disapproving looks. And read on to learn why some very smart women derive immense pleasure from having a younger man at their side.
How many of you have found yourself in the throes of passion only to find… well… nothing happening down there? How can I put this delicately? Some men of a certain age can’t keep up with us. Others… well… just can’t keep it up at all. In short, when we are in our prime, we’re more sexually compatible with younger men. And having navigated the sexual terrains of our younger years, we know what we want, what works, and what doesn’t. A younger man tends to be more than happy to learn from our fine-tuned mastery in the bedroom. Lucky boy.
It’s Raining Men.
There’s no denying that, as we age, the dating pool dries up – most men are already coupled, laden with baggage, or dead. Meanwhile, in the younger demographic, many men are newly divorced or have yet to settle down and are ready to hit the ground running. A survey carried out by the University of Michigan found that 31% of women between the ages of 65 and 70 remain sexually active. At the same time, younger men are looking beyond their age group to find fulfillment in mature relationships and lovers. Ergo, when you widen your age parameters, you will find a veritable smorgasbord of men chomping at the bit to date you.
Younger Men Tend to be More Physically Fit.
Studies show men tend to age faster than women. Younger men not only have more stamina in the bedroom but more energy and enthusiasm for the endeavors and activities of life. In other words, they can keep up with us.
Younger Men Have Less Emotional Baggage.
Sheer youth means they have yet to accrue a mountain of relationship boo-boos, ex-wives, late-wives, and for those men who have never been involved in a serious relationship – commitment issues. Cynicism is replaced by a positive attitude toward life. And a younger man is likely to be more open-minded and less critical than someone older, so you can be free to be fabulous you.
Wealth Isn’t a Factor.
You’re more mature, accomplished, stable in your career, and financially secure – so when you choose a man, it’s not about his money. We can burst out of that antiquated role of the fragile damsel who needs the prince to take care of her and reverse parochial positions with a younger man.
He Makes You Feel Young.
You’ve just spent twenty years raising kids, building a career, and/or taking care of a man, followed by a divorce or even the death of a spouse. In short, you’ve missed out on a lot of fun. If you have those dreaded thoughts that you’ve “wasted your pretty years,” stop! Find yourself a younger man to help you relive your youth… and have a lot of fun doing it.
He’s Nice to Look At.
There! I said it! (Because I know you’re thinking it.) Younger men are just plain easier on the eyes than most (I did not say all) older men. They tend to still have their hair and their youthful physiques. Their muscles are firmer, as are their guts, and their teeth are still intact. It’s kinda nice, is it not? No, this doesn’t make you shallow or heartless. It makes you human. After all, men have been thinking this way since the dawn of time. And besides, we’re just having fun here. You don’t have to marry the guy!
He Worships the Ground You Walk On.
This is a smart young man. He knows what he’s going to get, and he wants it big-time. He thinks you are wonderful because you are. Also, he knows you are at your sexual peak and in the prime of your life. He knows you are too busy running companies and countries to deal with drama. Finally, he knows you have the most amazing collection of leather pumps and lingerie because you like to buy it, like to wear it, and don’t have a checked-out husband to ignore you when you do.
So go for it, my wiser-than-40 friends. Reverse the roles. Change the paradigm, and explore the joys of a younger man.
After all… cougar is the new mink.
