Top 5 Makeup Application Tips for Summer

learning makeup over again for my new age

Summer is a great time to kick back, relax and enjoy the warm weather and long, sunny days! During these low-key days, your makeup application should be easy. So with that in mind, here are some of my favorite easy summer makeup application tips.

Highlight

Whether it’s cream, liquid, or powder, summer is the time to highlight your skin. It will reflect the sun’s rays in a broad spectrum of warm sunshine colors to create an inviting luminosity. A liquid highlighter is the most efficient yet productive product to provide moisture and additional glow. Apply with clean fingers on your cheeks, forehead, brow bones, and nose and blend lightly but thoroughly. The result should be sheer enough to give your skin a radiant finish, which is perfect for the summer.

If you choose a powder highlighter, remember to swirl the loose powder in your blush brush in the cap or on a tissue, so the powder is evenly distributed on the brush and avoids any mess. We recommend a bigger, fluffier brush so that the result will be softer yet smooth and even.

Try Cheek Tints vs. Powder Blush for Cheeks

Cheek tints provide a sheer wash of color that will look great in the summer. We recommend some of the more versatile colors because they can also be applied to your lips and, sometimes, even your eyes. Apply the tint on the apples of your cheeks rather than contouring them at an angle. Smile and apply the cheek tint with your middle or ring finger and blend them in a circle until it is evenly distributed and looks natural. The burst of color will focus attention on your cheeks, but at the same time, complement your lips. Don’t rub too hard when blending.

Lip Gloss

When it comes to lip gloss, brighter colors work better for most skin colors in the summer. If you are hesitant to use a bold color on your lips, try a sheerer version that might be a custom blend mixed just for you. You could even get a custom lip color in a tinted lip balm or gloss. This look will be more “bitten,” and you will not have to worry about the color bleeding because it will be sheer and natural. Adding a pop of color is fun, fresh, and highly recommended for summer!

Eye Pencil

The color teal always reminds me of a Caribbean vacation, and it’s the perfect color for brown, blue, or green eyes. Just make sure the teal you choose is not too bright and has some brown or black in it. One of my favorites, Tell Me Teal, is the perfect blend. You can use it inside the eyes’ water line or at the lash line on the top and/or bottom of your eye, depending on your eye shape.

You may have read heard that women over 50 shouldn’t wear eyeliner on the inside of their eyes. We respectfully feel a little differently since it depends on the shape of the eye and surrounding skin, along with the color and appearance of the skin on the lower eyelids. However, if you try this method, I would use caution. You need to look carefully at your eye shape to determine this. If you have enough space below your eye, it will actually make your eye look brighter and less red or puffy.

Finally, the Brows

Brow tint is a quick and easy way to color in the grays and give your brows some definition without using a pencil or brush and looking too done. To use the tint, roll the brush wand across your lashes and then blend with a blending brush. As a bonus, this product isn’t just for makeup application, you can also use this in your hair at the roots if your color oxidizes too fast at the beach. Apply the tint at the root of your hair and then comb it through. It’s smudge-proof and water-resistant.

It’s the time of year when you want to get out and have fun, which is easier to accomplish if you have a low-maintenance hair and makeup routine. It’s also a great time of year to try some bright and bold colors to match the sunny weather. As you look for new products for your daily skincare routine, try to have some fun with it and enjoy yourself. Whatever you do, keep your makeup application simple, easy, and fun, and enjoy your summer!!
