In reality, you can still fry an egg on the sidewalk where I am in Texas, but can’t we just drink our pumpkin spiced lattes and dream of the arrival of fall? We can’t live the cooler weather at the moment but we sure can prepare for it. Today, let’s look into some of the fall makeup trends for the upcoming fall and winter seasons while learning some tips on how to transition your makeup bag and say adios to some of those summer makeup ways!
Foundation
We tend to get a little bit more color in the summer even if you’re not one that loves to soak up the rays. I can pick up a little sun just from a small amount of yard work or even running errands in the car and I do not tan easily! But in the winter our complexion can be more on the pale side.
It is important to match your foundation accordingly. I have a summer and a winter foundation for just this reason. If you feel you need help, visit your favorite makeup counter and ask for a match. It is important to do your swatch test on your cheek and your chest. That way you can find a color that fits in between both and won’t look super awkward if you are wearing a scoop neck top. Some women tend to have more color on their face than their neck or chest and vice versa from if they wear a sunscreen on their face. When in doubt…swatch it out!
Eyes
The fall and winter is time to go with a little more intense colors. One of my favorite things to do is check out the Pantone color report for the season.
This really helps you think about your wardrobe. In the hotter climates you are wearing more pastels, whites, and overall lighter colors, but in winter we bust out the blacks, navies, and deep burgandies (my favorite time!). So we should really match our makeup to fit this color change.
By finding eyeshadow palettes that reflect darker, richer tones to match our wardrobe change we can celebrate the new weather in style!
In the Pantone report, it really looks like fun little color pops are in this season! Doing a sweep of marigold with your neutral eye colors could be just the thing to add some panache to that beautifully tailored navy blazer that is dying to come out and play!
The MAC Eye Shadow x 9: Burgundy times nine palette is such a great introduction to your fall makeup. Some cooler undertones and neutral shimmers will make it an easy transition.
A matte, all-inclusive palette for the cooler weather is It Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Vol. 1 Matte Luxe Transforming Eyeshadow Palette. This palette has an amazing array of colors so you can get any level of drama you are wanting.

If you like that little bit of extra sass the Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Eyeshadow Palette is for you. It may seem a bit bright but it really looks like they went to school on that Pantone trend report while making this. There are some beautiful aubergines and foxy taupes as well!

Blush
In the warmer weather, “bronzy” gold tones and pinks reign the apples of our cheeks, but now it’s time to bring in the newest fall makeup with some fun apricots and warmer tones. Apricot blush has been seen on multiple runways this season and I am chomping at the bit for this new weather to hit us. Well, let’s be honest, any reason to go buy some new makeup is a cause for celebration! Having a subtle application is key when using fall blushes. A fall makeup trend that is never outdated during the season is looking like you just came in from the chilly weather by emulating that rosy look!
MAKE UP FOR EVER’s HD Blush is all good things. An easy application with a long lasting color. #215 Flamingo Pink is a beautiful apricot. #320 English Rose is a lovely cooler rose tone perfect for fall!
MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Blush, $26
Bobbi Brown also has lovely creamy cheek colors that are delectable, creamy joy. It’s more of a stain and tint so you can just pop it on with your fingertips. Colors like “Powder Pink” & “Fresh Melon” will get you ready for the holidays.

Lips
Switching your baby pink lip gloss for a sassy winter color will never be frowned upon. There are so many amazing lip trends this season! One that is definitely causing a chatter is the nude lip, that’s right…it is back! This look is forever gorgeous when paired with more intense eye makeup.
If I really want a nude that is creamy, moisturizing, long-lasting, and easy to apply, Limelife by Alcone has a ridiculously great, opaque nude called #100 “knot telling.” I have probably told you about this before, but I cannot get enough of it! Since it has been released it has sold out a few times, so I actually keep a back stock for myself and my clients. Their “Perfect Lipsticks” are just that. Perfect!
The “wine-stained” lips have been gracing the runways and red carpets as well. This lip looks magnificent when you are rocking more of a natural eye makeup so that the lips are the star of the show. This color is color fun because you can go more on the burgundy side or have a hint of purple even.
Sometimes you really can have it all…a great product at a great price! I’m talking about NYX’s Soft Matte Lip Cream. They have so many great colors. Everything from the plummy “Copenhagen” to “Madrid” (a rich cranberry). This is truly a staple in my kit.
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream, $6.49
I hope you found new inspiration for the cooler weather and are ready to go to the makeup counter with some fresh knowledge. The fall and winter seasons are perfect for adding drama to your look and spicing it up. I wish you all a happy fall and extra marshmallows in your hot cocoa! Xo
