8 Essential Wardrobe Pieces For Fall

fall wardrobe

A good approach to fall wardrobe updates is to use the same strategy as when returning to school: a theme and a checklist. As a PRiME woman, you’ve got the wisdom and experience to develop your own personal style, so use this list as a guideline to choices that suit your figure, your lifestyle, and your tastes.

#ShopTheLook-We selected our favorites to guide you through these trends:

THE COAT:

Set the bar high this season and opt for a spellbinding coat. Outerwear is available in a range of textures. And that is the key word. Choose from “just-this-side-of-shaggy” shearling confections, plaids and animal prints, and all of the bright colors that abound. Neutrals hold their own in classic cuts.

THE SWEATER:

Another essential in any woman’s arsenal is the mega-knit. Look for roomy, chunky sweaters with fuzzy being a plus. They abounded on the runway – thick, slouchy, turtlenecked, with rust, pumpkin, forest/olive green and dusty rose being dominant colors in the knits. Watch for head-to-toe knit dressing.

THE COLOR:

Browns – chocolate, fawn, mahogany, camel, khaki, oxblood….whatever shade you can get your hands on. Brown is the new black; It is the hue of the season. Invest in something – anything – in the color. Colorblocking continues as a top trend on how to wear these hues. Extra points for dressing head-to-toe multi-tone monochrome.

THE BOOT:

The bootie and the western trend reigned on the runway. There was scarcely a stiletto in sight, as heels stayed chunky in a variety of geometries.  Designed for stomping around and still looking chic. Opt for this look to truly update your silhouette.

THE SCARF:

Winter will arrive and there’s no such thing as too cozy. Fall’s sweaters demand to be worn with a scarf – ideally one that is extra-long and matching. Don’t hesitate to layer your scarves in a way you would necklaces, opting for coordinating prints/solids in varying textures and lengths. Another version of this that we love is the poncho and a scarf for those days you need another extra layer of fluff.

THE MIDI SKIRT:

The midi skirt is feeling romantic and vintage, as it leans towards the prairie and practicality indicative of the western trend. When the pleated trend is paired with other classic fall essential pieces, like a turtleneck or blazer, suddenly the midi skirt leans into Prep School 1970s, evoking a Love Story vibe. This is this season’s underdog, proving to be quite the chameleon.

THE PANT:

The heroes of this season are of the masculine and vintage variety: the classic trouser. Preferably in plaid, the trouser is getting some heavy competition with the midi skirt. Treggings have become a great way to incorporate this trend into cozy everyday-wear and come in a wide variety of styles. Velvet and corduroy are also having their moment in the spotlight.

THE DRESS:

Continuing the trend towards blurring the line between “gender appropriate”, the dress gets an update this fall and is dominated by utility-inspired shirt-dresses and the western trend’s long a-lines. They are equally feminine and androgynous at the same time. Layering dress over dress is a style picking up speed, now that autumn allows for multi-layered looks. Another fun trend is layering a sweater under the sleeveless summer frocks.
