Thanks to influencers and celebrities such as the Kardashians, skinny teas have exploded in popularity over the last couple of years. There are several different varieties of skinny teas on the market, but there are two that have become akin to household names – Fit Tea and Flat Tummy Tea. 

These teas are meant to detox the body, and they make claims that drinking them for a specific period of time will result in more energy and a flat stomach. 

Many people have turned to these teas to get rid of excess weight quickly and with far less effort than is required by going to the gym. If you’re considering using detox tea to shed some pounds, read on to learn the differences between Fit Tea and Flat Tummy Tea to see which one is best for you. 

Fit Tea

The famous Fit Tea “is a detoxifying tea blend of certified organic herbs which are formulated to enhance your weight management program as part of a healthy diet and exercise regimen.” 

The ingredients of this tea include:

  • Organic green tea
  • Oolong Wuyi
  • Garcinia cambogia extract
  • Pomegranate
  • Organic rooibos
  • Ginger
  • Stevia
  • Honey
  • Guarana
  • Citric acid
  • Sea salt
  • Lemon juice
  • Matcha green tea

You can choose from either a 14-day or 28-day program to help you with your detox, which is supposed to reduce bloating, increase energy, and boost your metabolism. 

Each program has you drink a cup of Fit Tea in the morning to get your body boosted with electrolytes as well as vitamins and minerals. After that, you are to drink another cup of tea at night to promote your body to get rid of waste. So, Fit Tea is essentially a laxative product that helps you get rid of water weight. 

Flat Tummy Tea

Flat Tummy Tea claims to be the “#1 original detox tea,” and competition between it and Fit Tea is neck and neck. 

There are two parts to this tea. The first is the Activate, which is used to “help support your metabolism and digestion.” 

The ingredients in this one include:

  • Peppermint (leaf)
  • Lemon balm (leaf)
  • Licorice (root)
  • Dandelion (leaf and root)
  • Cleavers (leaf)
  • Fennel (seed)
  • Green tea (leaf)
  • Caraway (seed)
  • Cardamom (pods)

The second part is the Cleanse tea, which is used to support the detox process and help reduce bloat.

The Cleanse ingredients include:

  • Senna (leaf)
  • Peppermint (leaf)
  • Cassia chamaecrista (pods)
  • Licorice (root)
  • Caraway (seed)
  • Dandelion (root)
  • Rhubarb (root)

These two teas together come in a 2 or 4-week program. While on this program, you are supposed to drink the Activate Tea in the morning and then the Cleanse Tea every other night during the first week and then every third night during the remaining weeks. 

Which Tea is Better? 

Because Flat Tummy Tea has a two-step process, it is not quite as simple to use as Fit Tea. So, some might prefer Fit Tea because it’s one product that you’re using twice daily. 

Fit Tea’s 14-day program costs $25, and the 28-day one costs $50. Flat Tummy Tea’s two-week regimen costs $39, and the four-week one costs $78, so it is a bit more expensive. However, Flat Tummy Tea often has specials on their website where you get the second week free, so it may end up being cheaper much of the time. 

Though the ingredients of the teas aren’t exactly the same, they both contain ingredients that serve the same purpose of reducing water retention and serving essentially as diuretics. 

Either one of these teas will likely provide you with temporary weight loss and reduced bloating because the contents of the teas trigger your body to empty its bowels more than usual.

However, the long-term effects of this are potentially dangerous. By continuing to flush out your body, you may be ridding your body of good bacteria that it needs to function. In addition to that, regular use of products that have a laxative effect (which both of these teas do) can cause damage to the lining of your stomach. And this only worsens over time. So, the longer you consume these teas, the worse your stomach conditions will get. 

Some people may enjoy these teas for quick water weight loss, but it is important to note that they should not be consumed for longer than 28 days. It is also important to note that the water weight you may lose while drinking the teas is likely to come back once you stop the frequent bowel movements that the teas promote. 

If you’re looking to lose weight in a healthy and sustainable way, you’re much better off focusing on diet and exercise. Those are both healthy changes to your life that you can (and should) continue doing for the long term. While a quick fix may sound nice, the only way to reach a healthy weight that you can keep is not by drinking tea but by making changes to your lifestyle.
