I wonder how many of you are award show junkies like me. My main reason for watching is not the winners (and their mostly totally awkward, inappropriate or just plain silly speeches), but the clothes, jewelry, hair and styling. It amazes me that throughout all of these shows, not one dress shows up twice!! As I watched the pre-show interviews and cameras panning the incoming stars, I took note especially of the women I knew to be at or over the age of 50. They all looked amazing. Of course, most of the skin-baring gowns appeared on much younger women, however, even with little or no skin showing, the Prime Women over 50 rocked the red carpet.
Jamie Lee Curtis (age 60) looked so elegant in her white gown with white hair. Many white gowns look too bridal – not this one. It fit her to a T and the high slit up the front gave her some sexy! I actually liked the white hair with it and she could definitely pull it off. Is that going to be the new trend – hair to match the dress (after all, Lady Gaga’s blue hair matched her blue dress)?
Glenn Close (age 71) also looked elegant in her black tent dress. I wouldn’t say that was my favorite on her, but her hair looked spectacular and she didn’t look her age at all.
Allison Janney (age 59) was the Prime Woman “va va voom” of the evening in her aqua, Christian Siriano dress that accentuated a very fit figure. Her height made her look all the more elegant as she presented an award with her head-shorter male co-presenter.
Nicole Kidman (age 51) looked stunning in that garnet Michael Kors column dress with Harry Winston jewels and Debra Messing (age 50) looked spectacular in a black and silver Pamela Roland number with 10,000 feathers and her hair looked fabulous as well.
Julia Roberts (age 51) was the only actress I saw wearing a combo gown/pants outfit. It was designed by Stella McCartney and of course, when does Julia Roberts ever look bad?
Two 56-year old’s who always shine on red carpets and didn’t disappoint this time either – Julianne Moore who wore Givenchy Haute Couture white outfit and Felicity Huffman in a very form fitting Michael Kors.
I can’t wait for all the upcoming awards shows: Critics’ Choice Awards; Screen Actors’ Guild Awards; Grammys; BAFTA’s; BRITs; and the Oscars on February 24. I’ll be watching it all but especially those fabulous Prime Women over 50!
