So begins the annual boot pilgrimage, the art of analyzing winter boot trends and making the right selection to add to your existing trusted and faithful collection.
London and Paris streets are awash with a cascade of colours and styles this year and designers are ensuring we can boot up whilst adding our own personal ‘je ne sais quoi.’
So what does this winter look like? Velvet and suede boots are sumptuously coloured in autumnal tones of yellow, burnt orange, maroon and brown. Buckled and studded boots are back for those with a rock and roll heart. Over the knee creations are on trend again and can be worn with skinny jeans and a long sweater if you want to tone down the sexy. (But WHY?) Ankle boots come in many guises: leather, suede, patterned, and can be thrown on with jeans or tights and a swing dress for lazy weekend meanderings. The Chelsea flat boot goes high gloss for those casual work days in the office and off duty moments.
Noticeable are the block and angular heels which harken back to the 70s era when Studio 54 disco and motown grooves permeated the nights. Even sequin heeled boots are sashaying their way down the Parisien boulevards of Saint-Germain and London’s elegant Bond Street.
If a lady feels that she’s “over” sky scraping stiletto heels, designers offer flat boots and block heels instead. Neither look dowdy, but are elegantly and coolly shaped, flattering us mature women.
Finally, an investment pair that I’ll be going for this season, so beautifully crafted and spirited – the Stuart Weitzman Grandiose, in black of course!
