Athletic wear – it’s not just for working out any more! Have you noticed all the “activewear” (i.e. workout clothes) everywhere these days? In every store from Target to Neiman Marcus to specialty stores like Lululemon  to celebrities like Kate Hudson and high fashion designers like Tory Burch, all hawking their own fitness creations.

Instead of wearing workout clothes to actually work out, “activewear”, as it is now dubbed, is seen not only in casual venues like grocery stores and movie theaters, but also at fancier ones like symphony halls and dressy events – and now the office, yes, the office.

It’s a great trend for Prime Women.  Activewear is comfy and form fitting, helping to hold in those jiggly bits.  And with so many great fabrics, styles, colors, these pieces can be dressed up or down.  Leggings are the staple of this “athleisure” movement.

Leggings look great on Prime Women paired with long shirts, tunics and THE trend for fall – ponchos.  Leggings look best in black, burgundy, gray, brown and navy – forget nude (ugly).

Continue the cool look with boots, flats or heels.  There is really only one major rule for looking best in leggings – ALWAYS keep your butt covered – even if it’s small, tight and doesn’t wiggle!

Wearing the “athleisure” look to the office, however, really depends on the business and company culture.  It might be fine in creative or high tech environments where casual and hip are the norm, but in more conservative environments, this look is most likely inappropriate.

Shopping for activewear presents a world of choices – Athleta, Patagonia, Under Armour, Title Nine, Lands’ End, Neon Buddha – so many great brands.  So even if you never work out, you can enjoy wearing activewear just about anywhere without guilt.  Happy Shopping!
