Many mature women fear the camera. Simply because they do not know how to look their best for a picture. Whether it is for LinkedIn or for a dating website, everyone needs a photo that captures how they see themselves. The lighting and talent of the photographer can make you the star of your session but first you need to put your best face forward and look your best.
These easy steps will get you looking your best.
Step 1
Prep your skin with an oil blotting primer. If you are oily use SMASHBOX Photo Finish Foundation Primer and if you are dry use LAURA MERCIER Foundation Primer-Hydrating. Both add the needed preparation to insure your foundation appears flawless.
Step 2
Conceal under the eyes with a lightweight formula that will highlight and brighten. For this you will use CLE DE PEAU Concealer. This product comes in several shades from ivory to mocha. Apply lightly to any other areas that need extra coverage.
Use a foundation brush to thinly add foundation to even out your skin tone. I like to use two shades of powder to contour the face. A lighter shade down the center of the face from the middle of the forehead to the chin. A darker shade around the temple, the tip of the nose, and the jawline. MAC Select Sheer comes in a variety of shades for every skin tone. This powder is thin so it doesn’t cake up and leaves a sheer veil that will make the camera see only smooth skin.
Step 3
For day to day use crème blush is best for women 50 and up but for a natural look in photos find a blush that does not shimmer. I like powder blushes for a photo because they come in matte finishes. Shimmer in a photograph is distracting because it appears as though the skin is oily.
Step 4
Play up your eyes or your lips, not both. For the eyes, keep the shadows flat with the TARTE Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette. This eyeshadow is a good neutral set to create a natural eye. The variety of warm tones works well for all skin types and shades.
Keep your liner tight to your lash line by using a cake liner like LAURA MERCIER Tightline Cake Eye Liner. This liner comes in several colors but I would stay away from the green and purple. Choose a black, brown or grey.
Mascara is a must to make the eyes pop. CHANEL Le Volume Mascara in black gives you rich full lashes with length. All mascara clumps so use a separator like TWEEZERMAN Folding lash comb.
Check your brows because if there are spaces they will show up. To fill in those spaces CLINIQUE Brow Shaper is easy to use and comes with an excellent brow brush.
Because the focus is your eye keep the lips soft. If you line the lip use a color close to the lipstick color. Keep the colors flat by holding a tissue to the lip with one hand and add a little powder through the tissue with small powder brush with the other.
Step 5
Check your makeup in natural light to make sure everything is blended and evenly applied. You don’t want to get your photo back and notice one eye is darker than the other or your lips are uneven.
