Instead of an “eat this, don’t eat that” type of weight control program, Everlywell Virtual Weight Loss Management Program is all about the whole you for folks 18 years old and over. After you sign up for the monthly program, the first step is to make a consultation with an online clinician to discuss your weight loss goals. Your provider will review your medical history as well and determine if weight loss medication will be appropriate for you (more on the medications below.)
Happily, it’s not a one-and-done type of meeting: you’ll meet regularly online to check in and see how your progress is coming along. At that time, you’ll receive lifestyle support and recommendations to keep you on track.
Your second visit will consist of reading your test results and, again, going over your weight loss and health goals. Once all the information is logged in, you’ll receive a care plan to follow. Your medication tolerance will be discussed at this time as well.
Another good thing: Everywell handles all of the insurance claims and processes (if you have health insurance and qualify), so all you need to do is focus on getting healthier.
With your monthly fee, you’ll receive a heart health test, a cholesterol and lipids test, an HbAc1 test, and either a daily multivitamin gummy or Omega-3 fish oil capsules. Everlywell offers a free app as well to check on your progress, highlight visit summaries, and additional perks.
Everlywell Weight Care+ Program
Overweight folks not only carry around extra pounds, but they also run the risk of serious health conditions, including heart disease and prediabetes (Type 2 diabetes). With the Everlywell Weight Care+ Program, quarterly lab tests are done at home and sent to its lab. If you’re a New York State resident, you’ll be unable to have at-home lab tests sent in due to state regulation of laboratory services.
It’s worth noting that your initial lab test is not covered by the monthly plan. So, you’ll need to find a lab in your local area that works with your current health coverage. If you don’t have health care coverage, you’ll pay out of pocket for it. If you’ve had lab tests in the past six months, however, they may be uploaded for a clinician to review.
GLP-1 Medication
If you don’t know a lot about GLP-1 prescriptions, you’re not alone. In a nutshell, it’s a class of injectable medication that can cause significant weight loss. Studies have shown that using it can cause a 15% decrease in weight, especially for those that are obese.
So when you eat, GLP-1 meds delay gastric emptying and increase your gastric volume. They also enhance insulin secretion and inhibit glucagon release in people with or without type 2 diabetes. Additionally, these medicines can interact with the part of your brain that suppresses your appetite and makes you feel full.
After your first round of lab tests, should your clinician determine that GLP-1 makes sense for your weight loss plan and you follow the proper criteria, you’ll receive monthly prescriptions for usage.
Another point to note: Everlywell does not cover the cost of GLP-1 medication. Depending on your specific health insurance and weight loss need (generally for a BMI of 27 or higher), your insurance may cover it. If you do have to pay out of pocket, a monthly supply can cost anywhere from $900 to $1,400.
How Much Does the Everlywell Virtual Weight Loss Management Program Cost?
There are two options for the Everlywell program. If you only want to test drive the weight loss program, it’s $139 per month for three months. However, if you know you’ll be all in when you purchase a 12-month program, the monthly fee lowers to $99 per month.
Of course, you can always sign up for the three-month program and, once finished, resign for a year if you decide it’s the right way to go for your weight loss goals.
Anything Else?
Yes! You may cancel the plan if you become ineligible based on new lab results, your insurance won’t cover medication, or if the meds become too costly. The prior month’s monthly fee won’t be refunded, but you won’t have to pay for the unused months.
