I know I do. One of my favorite reasons to watch Netflix’s House of Cards (other than to see what evil Frank Underwood is plotting) is to see what Claire is wearing in the episode. Claire Underwood, played by actor Robin Wright, was known for her armored, tailored style in the first two seasons.
In the third season of House of Cards, Robin Wright has softened her look with the help of her personal stylist, Kemal Harris. While I think she has worn some gorgeous outfits this season, I prefer her even more tailored look from seasons past. I don’t think blouses with a bow-tie are quite her, but never mind. Here is a rundown on how to get her look.
Clean structured dresses
Of course it would help to be tall and thin like Claire, but depending on your body type, you can make the form fitting sheath dresses of last season work for you. The important thing, as always, is fit. Think Gucci, Armani, Ralph Lauren, and Narciso Rodriguez to get the look, but there are more reasonable alternatives, as well.
Crisp sharp blouses/tops
To get those man-tailored shirts that Claire favors, look at Theory, as well as, Banana Republic.
Pencil skirts
When shopping for skirts, look for designers that are known for their tailored looks. Pencil with kick pleats are Claire’s standard. The pencil is great for petite women to elongate the legs, a kick pleat will take the eyes away from the hips a bit. However, if fuller hips and thighs are an issue, a slightly fuller skirt is the way to go.
Claire tends to stick with pale grey. While it’s a great color for some, it may not suit you. Try an alternate neutral such as beige. If you choose to add color to your look, stick to pale colors like a lilac or blue. Deep greens, or raspberry are also good alternatives.
