What a year 2020 has been! That will be the phrase heard around the world. And how do you say goodbye to a year as intense as this one has been? You celebrate the new year finally arriving with some DIY New Year’s Eve party ideas.
Create A 2020 Time Capsule
This year has had some crazy things flying off the shelves at the local stores. For my family our biggest need was coffee, luckily there was no shortage there. But there were some items that we couldn’t believe were the hot items of the year. It’s time to create a remembrance of those items with this fun to create “Time Capsule”.
Items Needed
- Basket, Box, or Bucket
- Notepad
- Pen
- Items that mean something to 2020
- Toilet paper
- Hair dye
- Hand sanitizer
- Sanitizing wipes
- Newspaper or magazine clippings
- Bottle of water
- Recipes of things you made
Directions
- Write a note about how each item affected your family and tape it to the item.
- Place all of the items in the basket, box, or bucket.
- Seal it off and put a note on it to not open until 2070, or whenever you think it should be looked at.
New Years Eve Party Poppers
As a kid, I always looked forward to the New Year’s Eve party poppers. Once I became an adult, I realized how expensive these party favors were. I knew I could create them for a quarter of the price, and I already had everything I needed in my home.
Items Needed
- Toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls
- Tissue Paper
- Bells
- Glitter
- Candy
- Ribbon or pipe cleaners
- Glitter paint or glitter and decoupage
- Paintbrush
Directions
- Cut the tissue paper to big enough to wrap around the toilet paper roll twice, leaving 2 inches of tissue paper on each side.
- Tie one end of the tissue paper with the ribbon or pipe cleaner.
- Fill the toilet paper roll with candy, bells, glitter, and anything else you want to share when the clock strikes midnight.
- Tie the other end of the tissue paper with ribbon or pipe cleaner.
- Paint the outside of the party popper with the glitter paint or decoupage and glitter, let it dry completely.
Noise Makers With Bling
Don’t break the bank buying noise makers, you probably already have everything you need to create them. Time to search out the house for items to make these DIY New Year’s Eve party ideas.
Items Needed
- Toilet paper or paper towel cardboard rolls
- Cardboard
- Glitter
- Decoupage or craft glue
- Pipe cleaners or ribbon
- Bells or beads
- Hot glue gun
- Paintbrush
- Dowel rod or popsicle stick
- Steak knife or something to poke a hole in the toilet paper roll
Directions
- Cut the paper towel or toilet paper roll into one-inch circles.
- Using the knife, cut a hole large enough for the wooden dowel or popsicle stick to fit into it.
- Now cut a hole on each side of the toilet paper roll for the string or pipe cleaner to go through it.
- Trace the circle of the toilet paper roll onto the cardboard and cut it out.
- Do step 2 twice for each noisemaker.
- Run a pipe cleaner or ribbon into one of the smaller holes and out the other smaller hole, this is for your bells or beads.
- Hot glue one of the cardboard circles onto the opening of the toilet paper roll.
- put a bell or beads inside the toilet paper roll and hot glue the other cardboard onto it to seal it closed.
- Tie a bell or bead to each end of the pipe cleaner or ribbon.
- Paint and glitter the noisemaker.
- Glue the dowel rod or popsicle stick into the larger hole of the toilet paper roll.
- Let it all dry and have fun.
New Years Eve Cranberry Blitz Cocktail
This year like all should have a New Year’s Eve cocktail to ring in the new and out the old. If you’re not a fan of champagne like me, then you will love this cocktail.
Items Needed
- 2 oz Vodka
- 1/2 cup Cranberry Juice
- Ginger Beer
- Frozen Cranberries
- Ice Cubes
- Sugar sprinkles
Directions
- Wet the rim of the glass with vodka.
- Roll the rim of the glass in the sugar sprinkles.
- Place the frozen cranberries and ice in the glass.
- Add the 2 oz of vodka.
- Pour the cranberry juice into the glass.
- Top of the cocktail with ginger beer.
