As we have had to shelter in place this past month, I’ve been faithfully getting up logging onto my laptop for my 8-to-5 job sometimes in my PJs, t-shirt, shorts or even sweats. Well, it all depends on how many face-to-face Zoom meetings are on the calendar for the day because then I have to dress professionally from the waist up. But, as things begin slowly returning to normalcy, we will soon be able to physically return to the workspace. I never thought I would say this, but I am ready to get back in the office, put on my professional wardrobe and mingle with my co-workers.
In this extreme downtime, I’ve been surfing the internet for new looks and trends. I’ve discovered that the swing dress is finally making its way back to the forefront.
What is a Swing Dress?
A swing dress is a shift dress that flares from the bust down. Maybe it’s just me, but I think the “relaxed fit” of the swing dress is what has brought it back in fashion. Just in time as there are quite a few of us who can’t find our waistline anymore! Choose your style and color and watch what magically happens when you put it on. I dare you! As you walk, you will demand attention as the dress swings back and forth, side to side, showing off your legs while you walk.
That’s why they call it a swing dress. And the best part is no one is going to notice those pounds you packed on during the SIP. It will transform you, and you will feel like you can conquer the world. And did I mention it’s really comfortable to wear? A swing dress will take you to business meetings, presentations, cocktail hours and parties. This dress fits every occasion.
Back in the ’50s, the swing dress was worn as an everyday dress, and it’s one of my all-time favorites. I love how it embraces the top part of the body and then flows freely from the bodice. The dress is unique in itself because it doesn’t discriminate in size. This garment looks good on women of almost any shape! And the styles vary in colors and patterns.
Places to Wear Swing Dresses
Swing dresses are great for wearing almost anywhere: for work, dinner parties, church, weddings, date nights. You really don’t need a special occasion to pull it out of your closet. Take it to the park or brunch on the weekend or dinner at a nice restaurant.
