Yes, we know. It’s only the beginning of November but some retailers are already in a giving mood. Let the holiday shopping begin! With what will no doubt be a competitive online chase for our dollars, these retailers believe in getting in early while the cash is ready and available. And they have good reason to do so.
According to Deloitte’s 2017 holiday retail survey, holiday spending is bucking trends this season with only one-third of holiday budgets going toward gifts. A whopping 27 percent of respondents said they prefer to buy gifts that are an experience and 24 percent indicated they plan to host or attend more holiday events with friends and/or family than participate in a traditional gift exchange.
While the survey is not good news for retailers, consumers are indicating they will buy more online than in the past, 51% compared to 47% last year. This will mean less personnel needed in the stores which should be a money saver for retailers which they may use to offer even better online deals for us!
