This iconic photo of Christy Turlington caught my eye in the latest Bazaar. It looks so current, so today, so timeless yet, it is from a photo shoot taken in 1995!  What better testimony to the endurance of classic design. The block heel has returned with resurgence. Balance is the key to great style, and this blocky, sturdier heel provides a strong foundation for today’s longer skirts, flared legged pants and the boho influence on fashion.

Your shopping list for the season should include a new pump. I don’t mean your grandmother’s old fashioned, matronly footwear, but the new sculpted heel that has swagger and a gutsy fashion forward silhouette.

Fashion karma is working in our favor, my dear contemporaries of the Prime years. Comfort and stability are seldomly associated with fashion trends. The return of the power pump has not only taken my wardrobe into the 21st century, but it has taken my 20th century feet along with it.

How To Bazaar

It’s the classic shoe that’s mastered the art of fashionable negotiation. Neither high nor low, but somewhere in between, the midi-block-heel is not only diplomatic but highly desirable. Offering you the comfort of walkability and raising you a level up, this season’s iterations come in suede, patent and classic leathers for all occasions. Wear with tailored pants – like Christy Turlington did in this Patrick Demarchelier-lensed shoot from a 1995 issue of Harper’s BAZAAR – or pair with a mini dress and tights when the temperatures drop. It’s definitely got our vote!
