Just because our figures are, shall we say, a little fuller now, and maybe things aren’t where they used to be, doesn’t mean we don’t want a stylish swimsuit. Mature swimsuits are out there, but you must know where to find them.
You also need to know what you want in a swimsuit, what assets you want to flatter, and those you wish to conceal or at least diminish. First things first: find a suit with the proper bust support because droopy breasts aren’t very attractive at any age. Many companies make bra-sized styles—adjustable straps, underwire or shelf bras, and halters—and these are details to look for in mature swimsuits.
You also don’t want a suit that is too youthful, no matter how fit your body is. String bikinis are typically meant for the younger crowd; even then, we’re not sure we love them. Though some women keep great figures well into their 60s and beyond, they even look better in more modest two-pieces rather than full-out bikinis.
Many suits now feature ruched midriffs that conceal tummies and include hidden panels that help tighten and flatten the stomach. These work almost as well as doing a hardcore ab routine every day, and we love them for it. You’ll also want to ensure the bottom is cut to lift a saggy bottom rather than flatten it. The good news is that mature swimsuits can be found in almost every store selling swimsuits, so finding an option that brings out your best feature – your confidence – should be an attainable task. Below are a few of our favorites.

Fabulous Fabrics
When choosing a one-piece swimsuit, especially for women over 40, the right fabric makes all the difference in comfort, support, and longevity. Look for high-quality blends that offer a combination of stretch, shape retention, and durability. A common and reliable choice is a nylon-spandex (or elastane) blend. Nylon provides a silky feel and durability, while spandex adds flexibility and shape retention, ensuring the suit moves with your body without sagging over time.
For environmentally conscious shoppers, recycled polyester-spandex blends are an excellent option. These fabrics are often made from post-consumer plastics and offer similar benefits to traditional synthetic fibers, including resistance to chlorine, UV rays, and fading.
You may also prefer thicker, ribbed, or textured fabrics, which can provide a bit more structure and coverage. These materials smooth the silhouette and can be more forgiving in areas where support is desired.
Additionally, look for features like power mesh lining for tummy control or soft cup padding for bust support, both of which enhance comfort and confidence. A swimsuit that combines the right fabric with supportive features can help you feel stylish and secure whether you’re lounging poolside or swimming laps.
There’s no need to worry about donning a swimsuit, regardless of the shape of your body. There are mature swimsuits that flatter us, AND the real truth is no one is as focused on your flaws as you are. So this summer, go ahead and dive in!
