Mango has become the latest Spanish brand that has taken the U.S. by storm. If you’ve been in a major U.S. city lately, you’ve seen their retail stores popping up in malls, though I’ve been buying them online for a few years. You likely don’t know they are celebrating their 40th Anniversary this year. From humble beginnings in Barcelona, they have grown to a worldwide fashion brand that now includes men, children, teens, and the home.
Fashion editors will tell you that it’s the place to shop for clothes that are a bit trendy but still sophisticated. Mango is their if-you-know-you-know go-to for shoes, bags, and jewelry that look more expensive than they are. Mango emphasizes design and style more than the fast fashion trends that are Zara, so their pieces are more timeless.
A friend and I visited a New York Mango store on 5th Avenue shortly after the collaboration with Victoria Beckham came out. While not as inexpensive as their regular fare, the clothes were extremely well-priced for true designer clothing. Several of the items were evening wear and as elegant as Victoria Beckham herself. I could have purchased every item in her collection – I didn’t, but I certainly found none of them lacking. The fit was perfect for my size, as well.
One thing that makes Mango very popular is its inclusive sizing. They range from XXS to 4XL. They also have a separate plus-size section and are one of the few brands that redesign the cutting pattern for sizes over 14, making for a better fit.
