Golfing trips to Scotland are a fave of many men. I often hear women friends talk about what they will be doing while their husbands/significant others are gone for a week or more to play endless rounds of golf in Scotland. After having just returned from a trip to the Gleneagles Hotel, I can tell you that the next time your love interest mentions a boy’s trip to Scotland, you need to let him know you’ll be going as well!
If you are like me, your idea of what accommodations might be like in Scotland are quite wrong. It turns out the guys are staying at some of the top resorts in the world. The Gleneagles Hotel is set on 850 acres in spectacularly beautiful countryside. The hotel boasts a two Michelin starred restaurant with chef Andrew Fairlie, plus another grand dinning experience in the main restaurant serving Scottish dishes. The Bar serves a fabulous “high tea” and you can also find more casual dining where they serve everything from pizza and pasta to steak and tapas.
Along with fabulous restaurants, the hotel has two pools and an outdoor hot pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, gym and fitness training. There are indoor and outdoor tennis courts, as well as croquet, archery, segway tours and bike hire. Country pursuits include off-road driving, an equestrian school, shooting, fly-fishing, gundog training and the falconry school is fascinating.
Then there is “the Spa.” You of course expect a spa as even modest hotels are starting to offer massages and the like, but the Gleneagles Hotel has redefined what a “spa” should be. The Leading Hotels of the World Group gave the spa the designation of a “Luxury Spa Resort,” a title they reserve for only the finest spas in the world. Business Insider named the Gleneagles Hotel spa number 5 in it’s 26 Most Luxurious Spas around the world.
The spa was created with ESPA Life. Their philosophy is to create holistic treatments by marrying modern techniques with ancient therapies from around the world. From the moment you step inside the doors, you know you are somewhere really special. The choice of treatments are endless…from Ayurvedic massages, orient-inspired reflexology, natural facials and hydro therapies, to name a few.
And of course there is world class golf. Like many Prime women, I play golf, as well. If you enjoy getting a workout while you golf, Gleneagles will be perfect for you. No golf carts and you can elect to hire a caddy or use a pull cart. Either way, you will know you have “played” golf by the end of the round. While they are beautiful courses, the hills will kill you!
Room rates in the hotel start at £485. If you’re with two other couples, you might want to stay in one of the Glenmor lodges where a three bedroom for a week rents for £3350.00. They are beautifully equipped and perfect to enjoy other couples in the living areas. You can also stay for three or four nights. Rate upon request.
