Get Luscious Curls with our Top Coconut Oils

Coconut oil has so many benefits and can be used in multiple ways (in both the vanity and kitchen!). There are healthy fatty acids that moisturize your skin and nails and nourish your hair. Plus, it’s completely natural! while coconut oil is great for all hair types, today we’re focusing on those that are best for curly hair. If you have curly hair, coconut oil is a great way to minimize frizz and tame your hair. It can strengthen, reduce breakage, moisturize, nourish your scalp, reduce protein loss, and help your hair grow quicker.

How to Use Coconut Oil for Hair Care

While coconut oil is an excellent tool for treating dry or damaged hair, you need to proceed with caution. Not because it can damage your hair, but because too much can leave your hair looking greasy or weighed down. If you elect to use straight coconut oil instead of a shampoo, start with just a little and see how it goes. Here are some tips on how to best use coconut oil:

  • First, we recommend you use it at night, so it doesn’t start to look greasy during the day.
  • Start with about a teaspoon of coconut oil, and warm it up a little bit, so it spreads more evenly. Then, massage it into your hair, starting midway and working it to the ends. Use a bit more if you have thick hair and don’t feel like a teaspoon is enough.
  • While we don’t recommend that everyone applies coconut oil to their roots, if you have a really dry scalp, it’s a step you might consider taking. Again: tread lightly and start with just a little. You’ll be surprised how much coverage you get with a small amount.
  • After doing a coconut oil treatment, plan to shampoo twice to get out all of the oil. If you don’t, it can weigh down your hair and make it look greasy.
