The History of Valentine’s Day
Did you know that Valentine’s Day was created in 496 A.D.? It began when Pop Gelasius I established a feast day to honor the martyr date of Saint Valentine of Rome. By the Middle Ages, the modern traditions of Valentine’s Day – Love, poetry, and gifts – were already in place.
Nowadays, Valentine’s Day is recognized as a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and romantic love in many regions around the world. Cards, candy, and flowers are bought by the thousands, maybe millions. Though, I will take a handmade Valentine gift over a store-bought any day.
