Plastic Surgery Trends: The Most Popular Plastic Surgeries Patients Are Requesting This Year

plastic surgery trends

Plastic surgery has always been a popular choice for people that want to change an aspect of their appearance. However, in recent years, plastic surgery has increased in popularity most likely due to social media and the internet. People are not only seeing images of the way they would rather look (think Instagram influencers and models), they also have more access to information about plastic surgery and can find surgeons easier. Likewise, plastic surgery is constantly evolving and becoming better. Surgeons are perfecting their skills with new cosmetic technology to make plastic surgeries less invasive, to leave less scarring, and to make the recovery time as quick and easy as possible. With that being said, the most popular plastic trends change almost yearly. So, what are the most popular plastic surgeries of 2020? Keep reading to learn about the three most popular plastic surgeries that people have been requesting this year.

The Most Popular Plastic Surgeries In 2020

Facelifts

Facelift procedures are nothing new. However, in recent years the procedure itself has been drastically improved. A facelift (also referred to as a rhytidectomy) is a procedure that lifts and tightens the lower ⅔ of the face and neck. Many people opt for a facelift to reverse the signs of aging and to improve the overall aesthetic of their face. Facelifts target:

  • Folds on the skin and jawline
  • Sagging skin on both the face and the neck
  • Wrinkles
  • Jowling
  • Marionette lines
  • Dropped cheeks

In recent years, facelifts have become more popular as people are becoming infatuated with the idea of appearing younger and preserving their youth. Much of this has to do with social media and constantly posting images of oneself. Celebrities like Kris Jenner and Jennifer Aniston unintentionally put immense pressure on people to remain youthful-looking despite their age. However, societal pressure is not the only reason that people are getting facelifts. Many people are choosing facelifts to simply feel more comfortable and confident in their bodies by removing excess skin that makes them appear unattractive.

We had the chance to sit down with Dallas’s renowned plastic surgeon, Dr. Bryan Pruitt, who was able to offer quality insight as to the most popular reasons that his patients choose to get a facelift, “I have found that a majority of my patients get facelifts because they look older than they are or they saw pictures of themselves (mainly from the side) and don’t like the way that they look. However, I have had patients get facelifts because they are preparing for a major life event such as a wedding or major birthday or they are starting a new phase of their life.”

Facelifts are also constantly being innovated and updated. Dr. Pruitt mentions improvements in his years of practice, and that those improvements will only continue. “Recently developed procedures to lift the jowls and contour and sculpt the neck in new ways are really exciting and at the forefront of facial rejuvenation,” he says.

Because facelifts have become so popular recently, surgeons have even begun offering mini facelifts; a new innovation in the facelift realm. Mini facelifts feature fewer incisions and have a faster recovery than standard facelifts. They are also ideal for candidates that have minimal skin sagging.

Breast Lifts

There have been drastic innovations in breast lifting. In prior years, breast lifts (also referred to as mastopexy) required the repositioning of breasts with external incisions that left visible scars. However, recently, surgeons have been able to limit the amount of scarring that occurs after a breast lift by using recent surgical innovations to make smaller incisions. The way a breast lift works is by creating a surgical incision around the areola, as well as at the bottom of the areola to the middle of a person’s breast crease. In the last few years, surgeons have been able to make these incisions smaller and more precise with new tools so that there is little to no evidence of plastic surgery. This innovative form of a breast lift is referred to as a lollipop breast lift.

Surgeons also now offer scarless breast lifts.  A scarless breast lift is a minimally invasive procedure that uses radiofrequency technology. The radiofrequency technology tightens the skin around the breast in a subtle way so that the breasts look more attractive yet still natural. When it comes to plastic surgery, mainly breast lifts, Dr. Pruitt says, “technology continues to improve in all areas — lasers, safety equipment, and speed.” Because these areas are continuing to be improved every year, scarless plastic surgeries are becoming more of the norm; such as the scarless breast lift.

Mommy Makeovers

2020 has been the year of the Mommy Makeover. But what is it, exactly? A Mommy Makeover is a plastic surgery that typically includes three different procedures: a breast lift, tummy tuck, and liposuction. These procedures help mothers get rid of unwanted skin or fat that they can’t seem to get rid of with exercise and dieting. All three procedures are done at the same time so that the mother can get back to living her normal life faster. Plastic surgeons have perfected this makeover to make the recovery time about 1-4 weeks, depending on the complexity of the surgery as a whole.

Many women choose to get a Mommy Makeover in order to boost their confidence and feel comfortable in their skin. Unfortunately, some women have a hard time getting their bodies back after they are done having children which can drastically impact their self-esteem. However, plastic surgeons now offer a solution to this problem with Mommy Makeovers.

So, What’s Next in Plastic Surgery Trends?

As stated earlier, trends in plastic surgery are always changing and evolving. However, you can get a hint of what surgeries will be next year’s top trends by following plastic surgeons on social media and reading plastic surgeon’s blogs.
