Hello Prime Women, Tara here with the Style Signature! I am going to highlight some of the fashion questions from our Prime Women audience to create a guide that will have you looking fabulous and fashionable year-round!

Transitioning Stylishly

Our first question is from Maureen. Maureen wants to know how to transition a daytime look to an evening look without doing a full fashion change. I understand how important this is because when I am running from one place to another, the last thing I want to do is carry a full bag.Take an outfit that you know is going to wear the test of time throughout the day. For example, one where if you accidentally spill during the day, no one will be able to notice. In the purse that you’re going to take that evening, pack in a change of shoes, something a little bit fancier for the evening. Some items that transition well from day to night are jumpsuits, jeans, and a classic white button-down and if nothing else, a LBD is fail-proof.I would also suggest you spruce up your makeup. I think the number one way to look a little more evening-ready is to darken up the eyes and add a vibrant color to your lips. That is going to immediately wake up your face and say, “Okay, now I’m ready for some evening cocktail dinner date type fun.” Changing out your jewelry adds a little bit of sparkle, especially bigger pieces of jewelry. Accessories will add pop to an outfit and it can change up your whole look. It’s easy to pack in a smaller handbag, not your regular day bag – which is another excellent way to transition from day to night.

How It Works:

Here are two of my favorite day to night outfits:

Option 1: Take a basic white dress, throw on a fabulous wrap, slip into a neutral but comfortable heel and switch out your day bag for a clutch with a chain. Finish the look by adding some sparkle with a simple bracelet.

Option 2: Start with a black dress, layered with a cute cardigan or belted with a sweater to make it office-appropriate. At night the cardigan comes off and the killer accessories come on.

Our next question is from Kelly. She wants to know how she can handle trends coming around for the second or maybe even the third time, without looking like she stepped out of a time machine. I never like to get rid of any of my stuff because I think, “Hey, it’s all going to come back around.” There are a couple of different ways to refresh a vintage look. The first is pairing it with a more updated, modern shoe and using trendy jewelry. Next is tailoring – there is nothing wrong with shortening sleeves, perhaps shortening the length and putting a little nip and tuck in the waist to give a sharper silhouette. Lastly, adding a belt and a cool modern purse will do the trick.

Flying High

This next question is from Melinda, who is asking about the best high-rise pants for petite and short-waisted women. She is a woman after my own heart because I too am 5’2 – occasionally 5’7 with high heels, so I understand the struggle.

This is a tricky style challenge. A few of the brands that I often recommend to women who do want that high-rise coverage are Not Your Daughters Jeans, Wit and Wisdom and White House Black Market. Give it a try, not only with the high-rise, but also look for a mid-rise and see which one might fit you better. A mid-rise pant might fit better than a high-rise because of your short waisted-ness.
