The Perfect All-Natural Summer Skincare Routine

Summer is officially here! We can look forward to vacations, holidays, and relaxing by the pool with a great paperback. But we also have to be careful and protect ourselves while in the intense temperatures and sunshine, especially with skin that’s seen quite a few turns of the sun. Here are the top summer skincare products in my beauty regimen to ensure extra protection, add a little healthy color, and even reverse that pesky aging!

Morning Summer Skincare Routine

Adding a healthy sunscreen that isn’t chocked full of chemicals and can play well with your makeup can be a tall order. So that’s why Limelife by Alcone created one that acts as a primer, moisturizer, and sunscreen all at once! The only active ingredient in it is zinc oxide, and the rest is all naturally occurring goodness (like chicory root and vitamin B3 to reduce fine lines and hyperpigmentation).

Some foundations do have an SPF, but it is nice to add a little extra boost that can make friends with your skin and your makeup routine. Don’t forget to get your neck and chest when you are doing your makeup in the morning. I also love to add a little squeeze of moisturizer for my arms and shoulders or anything else I’m not covering for the day just to combine two steps into one.

Before bedtime…

I talk to a lot of women that have had the same beauty routine for quite some time. I understand that when something isn’t broken, don’t fix it, but I also know that we need to alter our skincare routine as we age, just like our makeup. There are also so many advancements in skincare and more natural options (instead of packing on and in those chemicals). Our body’s bloodstream sucks up 60% of what we put on our epidermis; it can get kind of frightening to think about. That’s why it’s great to learn about healthy alternatives!

Bioeffect’s EFG serum is a nightly serum that repairs everything while you sleep. There are only 7 ingredients in this tiny bottle, and it only takes 2-4 drops per evening, so a little goes a long way. It helps reduce all those teensy lines and little wrinkles while evening out and brightening skin tone all at the same time! EFG stands for epidermal growth factor, which is a human protein that sends messages to our cells to remind them that we need collagen and elastin production to keep it up.

Night and Day…

This next little addition isn’t so much just for summer skincare but can help year-round to reverse aging and should be added to your list of fabulous necessities. The name can be misleading saying it’s a “night” serum because it can be used in both the AM and PM. Also, eye serums and creams are a must because they really work and are specially formulated for that thinner, darker skin we all struggle with. This particular product is great because it helps keeps the undereye area very moisturized, which can be a tricky task to undertake. It also helps with any darkness and just helps tighten, brighten and really “open” your eyes.

Weekly Summer Skincare…

Exfoliating our face and body is important to help the cell cycle run its course. Our body’s skin cells die over time and can just sit there and hang out, barring the younger, newer cells from coming out to say hello and shine. It can also clog pores and cause other skin issues. When we exfoliate, it helps move this process along and increase circulation while leaving skin looking younger, not to mention super soft (like can’t stop feeling your own arms and legs soft!). This does not need to be performed daily. It really only needs to be done 2 to 3 times a week to keep the cycle healthy and our skin looking good. If your skin is sensitive, then once a week is completely fine. The old saying “too much of a good thing can be a bad thing” totally applies here. If done too much, it can leave your skin irritated and dry, also causing breakouts and other skin irritations.

Tip: If you are using a facial retinoid treatment, I would recommend exfoliating only once a week and very, very lightly. When using a chemical exfoliant, the “scrubby” types are not necessary.

Summer skin just when you need it…

Whether you are going out for a night on the town or just poolside, it’s always nice to have a touch of color. It hides those little varicose veins and helps you look slimmer. However, tanning can be harmful to your body – something none of us knew when we were teenagers! I remember using baby oil to get those deep tans when I was younger (and recently had a pre-cancerous spot removed because of those “unenlightened” tanning sessions).

Science has now told us how awful tanning beds and sunbathing can be, so bronzers and the creators of beauty products have really upped their games. Using bronzers is a little trick that is instant, non-streaky, and doesn’t transfer onto clothing but gives you an amazing bronze glow with a fun little shimmer. One in particular that I consider my secret weapon is called the “Perfect Glow Body Bronzer,” also LimeLife by Alcone. It is not a self-tanner at all. Instead, it’s a body-bronzing moisturizer that washes off when you are done with it. It also comes in three shades, including rose gold, gold, and bronze, depending on how sassy you feel.

These are just a few items that I love to bring into my summer skincare and makeup routine. If you feel like you need a great eye cream or sunscreen, these are definitely some great options. It can be hard introducing new things into your beauty routine all at once, but if you slowly add one or two, it will form some healthy new habits, and your face and body will thank you! Xoxo
